New tradition:
#VHSArtFriday. Every Friday I can, I will post a piece of VHS cover from the good old days.ゴジラVSビオランテ- Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989) [HBO Video, 1992]
This one is a particular favorite with the foreboding Ohrai art especially. I still have my copy.pic.twitter.com/3JPEZSyQcD

I never owned this one, but I can remember being young and looking at the Godzilla tapes at the video rental store and the cover art for this one literally jumping out at me. It might have been the first one I ever saw because of this (I say that because I’m not 100% on my first)

It kinda freaked me out as a kid, actually. It's classic Noriyoshi Ohrai.
I wish they would use his art as a design motif for more releases. He was possibly my favorite movie art painter, easily the Nihon equivalent to Drew Struzan or John Alvin.

I've definitely still got mine! In fact, I accidentally ended up with two copies when I won an eBay auction for a box of Kaiju VHS tapes! Biollante was actually the last Heisei movie I ended up buying/watching, and it was via this tape. LOTS of warm memories of watching it.

Yup, it was the first of the post-1985 Heisei films I saw. I got it for Christmas in 1995 and really had a blast watching it for the first time. The HBO tape and LD was, perhaps unintentionally, actually the first US Godzilla home video release in widescreen format.

Very true! I remember being shocked at how good it looked when I first put it in. After years of pan-and-scan nonsense from most of my Godzilla tapes, HBO's presentation of "Biollante" was a refreshing surprise!

I have this
#VHS. The#ArtWork is beautiful, wonderfully comic-like and hinting of a great adventure to come.— (@JamaalAbduRahim) 16:17 – 2018年8月18日
As a kid I didn't watch this because the artwork made Biollante look too scary
— (@Hatercles) 17:09 – 2018年8月18日
#GodzillavsBiollante is one of the best examples I've seen of artists and craftsmen allowing themselves to get carried away. And the results are spectacular and beautiful. I love this film.pic.twitter.com/aQ9WVxDHyh— (@JamaalAbduRahim) 17:32 – 2018年8月18日
#GodzillavsBiollante is characterized by a kind of imaginative innocence that recalls some of the#ShowaFilms: the ability and willingness to present the improbable and fantastic in a way that is not only incandescent, but natural as well. There is#Biollante, and then,#Miki.pic.twitter.com/l7bG8QibIE— (@JamaalAbduRahim) 11:49 – 2018年8月19日
vs. Biollante was what got me into Godzilla and it remains my favorite vs. movie. I hope theres a new Godzilla movie that explores it's concepts because theres a lot of depth to it. the Netflix series sort of does this i think

LOVE this idea, but that should come as no surprise!

Still have mine too. Classic
